STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT LAUNCHES ENERGY INITIATIVE TO LOWER BUSINESSES' ELECTRIC BILLS AND IMPROVE RELIABILITYMayor Malloy leads City in Effort That Allows Neighboring Businesses to Generate Their Own PowerWASHINGTON, D.C – (June 20, 2007) Pareto Energy Ltd, the global pioneer in developing Energy Independence Districts, today announced that the City of Stamford, Connecticut has selected Pareto Energy to spearhead a new measure allowing businesses in the City to work together to generate their own clean local power as a means of lowering costs, improving air quality, and avoiding power failures caused by an aging electric transmission system that amounts to hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost productivity. The City conducted a competitive bidding process and selected Washington, D.C.-based Pareto Energy to plan and implement a similar concept know in Connecticut as an Energy Improvement District (EID). An EID is served by a micro electric grid powered by any number of cleaner, new technology power sources including trigeneration, fuel cells, natural gas generators, and solar panels. No generation would come from traditional oil or coal-based sources. The existing, public electric power grid will serve as a backup. A bill passed by Connecticut lawmakers and signed into law earlier this month by Governor Jodi Rell permits towns to pass ordinances to allow EIDs. “We are have ongoing discussions with several municipalities in Connecticut and around the country on local power initiatives,” said Guy Warner, CEO of Pareto Energy. “Mayor (Dannel) Malloy has been a strong proponent of this concept as a means of economic development, improving energy reliability and making a positive impact on the environment. The City of Stamford and the Mayor deserve credit as early adopters of an approach to energy independence that is gaining momentum.” Mayor Malloy was an early contributor to the concept of EIDs, which grew out of meetings held by the US Conference of Mayors and Pareto Energy. “We’re offering the Stamford business community a tool to lower the cost of doing business in Stamford,” said Mayor Malloy. “Businesses here are under a lot of economic pressure. We also know that businesses across the region want to get their power from cleaner, more reliable sources too so we’ve developed this partnership with Pareto Energy to help us accomplish both initiatives.” For More Information about EIDs please visit www.paretoenergy.com ABOUT PARETO ENERGY, Ltd. Pareto Energy Ltd., U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) Platinum Partner, is comprised of an internationally renowned group of lawyers, engineers and financial specialists dedicated to energy savings for commercial businesses. Pareto Energy is organizing municipal and commercial energy users into Energy Independence Districts™ (EIDs) designed to confront deregulated energy markets and set up energy savings technologies, on-site power and micro grids. EID businesses can leverage technologies and newly created market efficiencies to optimize the existing grid system, minimize the need for new infrastructure, lower costs and operate in a more secure and environmentally friendly way.
