Local PowerPareto calls its primary energy solution “Local Power” because we create much of the needed power on-site, using both natural-gas-fueled generators and renewable energy sources. On-site production means that all power can be used. Instead of throwing away two-thirds of the energy value of a fuel, as traditional utilities do, Local Power converts the otherwise wasted heat into free fuel for heating, hot water, and air conditioning (a technique known as “trigeneration”). Overall efficiency jumps from about 30% to as high as 80% or 90%. Combined with high-performance and high-efficiency equipment and energy management systems, a site's overall energy use, costs, and emissions all drop dramatically. As a result, Pareto's approach can help projects and communities meet ambitious sustainability goals. The Local Power solution also provides a big leg up for LEED certification, resulting in as many as 6 to 10 additional LEED credits (enough, for example, to move from basic certification to LEED Silver).
